Fawood hosts weekly borough-wide ‘Special Stay & Play’ sessions during the ‘Summer’ term every Monday from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. During this session there is a parent/carer meeting where adults have a chance to get together, chat, talk to professionals, share advice and listen to guest speakers. These meetings are a great way for everyone to share ideas and better understand autism.

All nursery aged children in Brent who have special needs are welcome to come with their parents/carers to enjoy a variety of activities and spaces.

These sessions also include a variety of sensory based activities for children and a high ratio of staff to ensure all children are well catered for. Some of the areas on offer during the Stay and Play session include; the main nursery, the Rainbows room, the climbing frame, the crèche and the sensory room.

If you live in Brent and your child is aged 3 to 5 and has special needs please come and join our weekly group.

In Rainbows we work very closely with our children’s parents/carers. We arrange half termly key worker meetings, termly home visits, IEP reviews every 8 weeks and monthly parent forums. We value parents/carers as partners in their children’s education and work as closely together as we can achieve the best possible outcomes.

We also work closely with parents during times of transition. When entering Rainbows, children are transitioned in slowly until they settle. Parents/carers are asked to stay and help this process to make it as easy as possible for the child. Similarly, when children are leaving Rainbows to move onto reception, we introduce them as slowly as possible to their new setting so they feel more comfortable and ready for the change. We do this in a variety of ways, including taking trips to the setting beforehand or making picture books with photographs of the new setting.
